Get Those Shorts Out, It's Summertime!

Now that summer is finally here it's time to get those legs ready to wear those shorts that have been hibernating in your closet. There are different style of shorts that a plus size Diva can wear, but you just have to choose the right one that will complement your body. I know I'm not the only one who has seen plus size women wearing shorts that are too small for them and their thighs are literally eating up the shorts, ugh that's an awful sight! I look at these women and wonder how on Earth did you manage to put one leg in them let alone both legs.

I remember the days being younger wearing shorts on a hot summer day not having to worry about the shorts I wore (as long as they covered my butt). But hey, back then I was slimmer and now that I have a fuller figure I have to be cautious about what kind of shorts I choose to wear (short shorts are not in my future, lol).

Let me keep it real with you Divas. As plus size women we have thighs, big legs, ham hocks or whatever you want to call them we all know in the summertime they have a tendency to rub together. Of course with all that rubbing it can get uncomfortable. So here are my few tips for purchasing those shorts.

•If you don't like feeling hot buy a size up. This will give you the extra room for your thighs to move with ease and to reduce friction, ouch! Buying a size up will also reduce the dreaded muffin top and reduce creasing in the crotch/leg joints.

•Buy one inch longer because most shorts are made of cotton and cotton shrinks. You can cuff the legs of the shorts which is trendy.

•Definitely stay away from pleats! Even one pleat in front of the shorts will add bulk and make you look larger. Also, darker color shorts will make you look slimmer.

The best tip of them all, take time to try on your shorts before purchasing them. The mirrors in dressing rooms are there for a reason and if necessary ask for an opinion. I hope my tips will help, so go ahead big leg girl and purchase those shorts!

Gabby's Writing A Book!

When I first saw Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe in the movie "Precious" which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress I just fell in love with her. Not only is she a talented actress she is also plus size. Even though others might think she doesn't fit the standard mold for an actress in Hollywood, Gabby is doing quite well with her acting career. With the movie "Precious" under her belt she has starred in several movies and television shows, especially my favorite show "Empire."

She once told New York Magazine, "I learned to love myself, because I sleep with myself every night and I wake up with myself every morning, and if I don't like myself, there's no reason to even live the life. I love the way I look. I'm fine with it. And if my body changes, I'll be fine with that." After reading what she said, Gabby is a strong woman whom I admire.

Gabby is planning to write a memoir for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to be published in 2017. The yet untitled book will feature stories from Gabby's life, spanning style and fame to depression and family. I'm excited for her and I can't wait to read her upcoming book!

Being the owners of Jones Girls, Inc. Models has brought so many rewards. Erikka and I both love what we do on and off the runway. This isn't a hobby for us, we put our heart and soul into the modeling business. As models and business owners we have grown to have tough skin because the modeling industry is a "dog eat dog world" and if you don't have that tough skin you will be eaten alive.  But we will say this, we have come a long way since we first started. From doing church fashion shows to doing well-known fashion shows and we still remain humble. It's amazing how many aspiring models we have influenced and how many models have gone through us and are now doing bigger and better things.

As Erikka and I continue our journey in the fashion industry, we want to say thank you to God and to those who has helped us along the way because we truly would not have progressed so quickly. Always keep this in mind, don't let anyone tell you what you can't do, because at the end of the day you have to live your own life and make your own self happy. Keep watching us, we are striving for bigger and better things!

Check Out Torrid For Fashionable Clothes For Summer!

I have been shopping at Torrid for years and I totally love their trendy clothes. Now don't get me wrong, I use to shop at Lane Bryant, but their clothes are more expensive and not trendy enough for a fashionista like myself. I mainly shop at Torrid for my leggings. I wear leggings like they are jeans! I have quite a few, from the basic kind to faux leather. I'm not that impressed with their jeans because they fit great when you first put them on and after a few hours you have a saggy butt. Personally, that's not a style I'm trying to go for. I feel they need to better manufacture their jeans. I also purchase jewelry and my tops from them as well. As far as my tops I don't have any major complaints, just make sure you try clothes on because what looks good on the rack may not necessarily look good on you. But over all Divas, definitely check out Torrid (www.torrid.com) for fashionable summer looks and send me a pic of you wearing your outfit.

Jones Girls, Inc. Models were booked for a product photo shoot for Beach Stuff Shop (www.beachstuffshop.com), an online boutique located in Dallas, TX who also ships worldwide! They have high quality cruise resort wear, cover ups, swimsuits, and dresses for women at discount prices.

I had the opportunity to be there with my models and get a glimpse of the array of fashions that were shot by photographer Samuel Cobb. I must say Robert West, owner of Beach Stuff Shop had dresses, swimsuits, cover ups, hats, and bags that really caught my eye. So, if you are looking for fashionable beach attire for your summer vacation or just hanging around poolside, I suggest you check out Beach Stuff Shop and tell them I sent you, lol!

Accessories Are A Plus For Plus Size Women!

Stylish accessories are important part of any woman's wardrobe. These fashionable pieces can really flatter even the simplest outfit. I know myself my outfits are not complete until I have my accessories on. Divas, you can't imagine how accessories can make a boring outfit to an outfit that screams FASHIONISTA! Plus size women have it in their minds that they don't need accessories because it will emphasize their weak spots. However, choosing the proper accessories can do wonders making you appear slimmer and even sexier! I will give you tips on what accessories you must have that will inspire you to run to the nearest store to pick these items up.

I know I love accessories and they can really add style to your wardrobe. You can mix and match them with different outfits to help create many different looks which I will show you how. Divas, you can brighten up your appearance with fun accessories that will flatter your curves and get you noticed what ALL Divas strive to do. So, let me break down the must-have items every plus size woman should have in her wardrobe.

Let's start with belts, I totally love belts! Not only are they functional they are quite fashionable. Stylish belts are every where this year giving plus size women a great possibility to show off one of our best assets, our fantastic waists. Yes, belts can accent every outfit making you as trendy as our counterparts, the skinny girls! Picture this walking into a clothing store and seeing a wide variety of different belts is like a kid in a candy store, so many belt styles you can choose from. You just have to choose a belt that works for you. Belts can be tricky accent pieces which can be worn under your bust area. They can be matched with dresses, shirts, sweaters or any other clothing item you would like to wear to accentuate your gorgeous waist.

Next are leggings. God knows how much I adore leggings. Leggings can be worn through all the seasons. Leggings are definitely one of the trendiest fashion items this year. I pair my leggings with miniskirts, long sweaters, peplums, and t-shirts. Leggings are very versatile and can add style to your look and wardrobe. I suggest buying basic colors like black, brown, or navy blue. If you really want to add style try choosing animal prints or tribal patterns.

Next on the list are sunglasses. Sunglasses are extremely chic accessory that will morph you into a sophisticated Diva! Sunglasses are a trendy fashion item that is a must-have in every plus size woman's wardrobe. Choosing the right pair can really flatter your face adding class and sex appeal.

This accessory I'm about to speak on is one must-have a plus size woman should never do without, a well chosen handbag. Now, keep in mind to pay attention to size. A too small handbag will end up looking as if you are bigger than you really are. Choose a bag that is proportional to your figure. I'm tall and plus size so most of my handbags are large and I also have bags like clutches for when I'm going out. I still keep my clutches proportional to my figure. If you are like me, try shopping for bags that are funky and has chic colors that will add flavor to your outfits.

Last on my list is jewelry. Plus size women should avoid tiny jewelry and choose larger bold pieces. Wearing small necklaces, bracelets or tiny rings will make you look larger. Nothing looks worst than seeing a plus size woman wearing a choker and she has a chubby neck a BIG no-no in my book. My suggestion would be go for chunky, statement jewelry pieces. These pieces will compliment you better and would be a better choice than smaller jewelry. I love, love wearing bold, bright necklaces that will enhance your facial features and express your individual style.

Well, Divas I hope my tips have inspired you about adding accessories to your wardrobe. Just remember that accessories are fun and are essential to a woman's day to day look.

What Suits You When It Comes To Plus Size Swimsuits?

6/18/2015

Picture
I was excited to see a plus size model on the cover of Sports Illustrated, ok yes you read that right, a plus size model on the cover of Sports Illustrated! Plus size women are getting noticed especially wearing swimsuits. So, with that being said, It's that time again ladies to put on those swimsuits. I know for some of you Divas think the word SWIMSUIT is a bad word, but trust me once I give you a few tips on what swimsuit to flaunt you'll be strutting yourself around that pool.

Shopping for a swimsuit you want to find a suit that will accentuates your best features while at the same time hiding your trouble areas. First you have to determine the best swimwear that will flatter your body type. "What's my body type?" I see those wheels turning in your head, so let me get started explaining body types.

Pear
Pear-shaped women should focus on accentuating their bust and upper body, while concealing the lower part of their body.
Who: Women with larger legs, thighs, or bottoms.
What: Accentuate the top part of your body and hide the lower part.
How: Pair solid bottoms with a brightly color tops to draw the eye upward.
Best styles: Skirtinis, tankini sets, or one-pieces with brightly colors tops.

Apple
Apple-shaped women should focus on drawing the eye downward with flowing designs and styles. Choose prints over solids, as solids will draw more attention to your body.
Who: Women with larger chests, shoulders, or stomachs.
What: Accentuate your legs with more coverage in the bustier area.
How: Wear tummy-trimming suits and brightly colored prints to draw attention downward.
Best styles: Swimdresses and all-over print one-piece suits.

Small Waist
Women with small waists should accentuate them! Focus on finding swimsuits that emphasize the waist by drawing attention to it with belts, colors, and prints.
Who: Women with larger chests and hips, but with a small waist.
What: Accentuate your thin waist and upper body.
How: Draw attention to your waist with a fun belt, or a swimsuit that emphasizes the waist.
Best styles: One-piece suits with brightly colored tops and designs.

Large Bust
Large-busted women should focus on finding a swimsuit that provides comfort and support, as well as fashion. The halter top is the most figure-flattering top for large-busted women.
Who: Women with larger chests.
What: Accentuate your chest while staying comfortable.
How: Wear underwire tops with sturdy straps to draw attention to the chest while flattering it.
Best styles: Halter tops (the A-line creates a slimming effect, and the thick straps provide bust support) as well as underwire tops with thick straps.

I hope I was able to shine light on what swimsuits that will flatter your body type. Just remember no two bodies are exactly alike, and no swimsuit advice is perfect. Knowing what looks good on you will give you more options when it comes to choosing a swimsuit. I suggest that that you always try on swimsuits and once you find that awesome suit that screams THIS IS THE ONE, make sure to pair it with stylist flip flops, sunglasses, and a hat to complete your look!
