Now that summer is here I'm sure some of you Divas who are curvy have been trying on swimsuits and nothing has looked flattering on you. Here are a few tips for purchasing your swimsuit.

If you're curvy... A boy-short suit is a no-no. Opt for feminine styles, they flatter while still offering support and coverage?nice!
Play up your figure by finding a suit that is cut high on the thigh. This will make your legs look much longer. If you have curvy hips, then all the better. This cut will accentuate your smaller waist and give you a flirty look.

If you're curvy, ruffles on top showcase curves.

It was such a delight to interview model Alicia whom I've known since I've been modeling. Not only is she my long time friend, she is also a dedicated and loyal model that has blossomed in her modeling career.  I hope to continue to see great things happen for Alicia in her modeling career. Here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Alicia: Dallas Texas

Jchell: Where did you go to high school/college?
Alicia: Skyline High School and Indiana University

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Alicia: I love to read a good romance novel, hang out with family and friends, and watch television.

Jchell: How long have you been modeling?
Alicia: about 6 years

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a model?
Alicia: It was different; I wasn’t sure how people liked plus size models especially with how people say negative things about people they feel are overweight. Also the group I started out with I had to spend a lot of money and things they promised didn’t always happen. I was able to meet some great people that are still in my life today.

Jchell: Have you been published in any magazines?
Alicia: Yes, I was published in the Curves Valentine’s Day issue in February.

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Alicia: No, I have not branched out into acting.

Jchell: Let's talk about your beauty regimen, how do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Alicia: I use Mary Kay beauty products to wash my face. I also you a beauty mask from the store Lush, witch hazel to keep black heads away, Mary Kay and Oil Of Olay moisturizer.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Alicia: Distressed jeans and maxi dresses and skirts. Both items you can dress up or down and are comfortable.

Jchell: Every girl has a special “can't live without this” in her closet, what's yours?
Alicia: A cute black dress.

Jchell: Who is your favorite photographer(s)?
Alicia: Bilal Alan and Chris Booth

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves.
Alicia: Know who you are. Pay attention to your surroundings you may have to model something you don’t like, wear a hairstyle that you think is terrible and wear shoes that hurt but keeps all comments to yourself you never know who is listening. Everyone is not your friend.

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Always be professional and respectful you never know what may happen but when you are always respectful of others it will be remembered.

How To Stay Cool Wearing Jeans In The Summer

It’s hard not to love a standard pair of jeans and it can be hard to wear a standard pair of jeans in the heat of the summer. If you live anywhere in Texas or any other hot states, you know how hot it gets and trying to stay cool in a pair of jeans may seem impossible to wear. The most dreaded thing people face is being uncomfortable in their favorite pair of jeans. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make jeans work, even at the hottest time of the year. Here are a few tips to help keep those legs from getting too sweaty.

*Look for lighter weight fabric. You definitely do not want to wear heavy denim fabric that you wore in the cooler months into the hotter months. Denim is measured in ounces and is much heavier than wool or finer cotton weaves. Heavy denim makes jeans sturdy and also makes them warmer in the summer. Try 100% cotton, because the synthetics that make denim stretch do not breathe the way cotton fibers do making the jeans more prone to trapping sweat and hot air against your skin.
*Get distressed style jeans. Distressed jeans are perfect for summer, because the holes will naturally provide some much need ventilation.
*Go with lighter colors. White jeans are a good way to help fight against sweat. White jeans don’t attract as much heat as darker jeans and now white jeans are pretty much seasonless. They use to be worn from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but that’s not the case anymore, people now wear them all year long.

For many people giving up wearing jeans in the summer is not an option. Just take heed of these tips and you will master the art of wearing jeans this summer.

This outfit is fun for the weekend or maybe you want to look cute running around town doing errands. This particular look is a look I often enjoy wearing. A great pair of ripped jeans, a comfortable t-shirt, a colorful pump and handbag makes this outfit pop! If you don’t want to wear pumps you can opt them for sneakers of your choice or cute flats. I'm sure most of you Divas already have this look in your closet, but for the Divas who do not have this look check out your local plus size stores like Torrid who have trendy looks for the plus size Diva.

It was a pleasure to interview Tinita Coulter a designer for plus size women. I can see her designs on and off the runway. Tinita is very passionate about her craft and strives to make every plus size woman feel fabulous in her clothing line. Here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?

Tinita: I was born in Columbus, GA but raised in Chattanooga, TN.

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Tinita: I started my continued education at Alabama A&M University and gained my degree at Tennessee State University.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Tinita: I love traveling. Also, I love the game of spades. I play a round everyday. (Don’t judge me..lol)

Jchell: How long have you been designing clothes for plus size women?
Tinita: I have been designing clothes for plus size women on and off since 2002. I officially went into business in 2013.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a designer?
Tinita: Starting out...I was scared. I would always think that my designs were not good enough. I quickly learned to be confident and secure in my work. Also reaching the right clientele can be challenging. However, I continue to let my work speak for itself and that attracts the right people.

Jchell: Who or what inspired you to start Linka Exclusive?
Tinita: I used to watch my mother sew garments for others when I was younger. So, that caught my attention in the sewing field. Growing up, I used to dream of making clothes that fit my body and were appealing. Therefore, the idea of Linka Exclusive was revealed to me during my younger days.

Jchell: Have you participated in any fashion shows?
Tinita: I started participating in fashion shows back in 2013. I continue to showcase my designs to gain exposure. You can find me in fashion shows from the mid west to the east coast this summer and fall.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Tinita: I have fallen in love with flowing fabrics and vibrant colors. I also love the current recycling trend of cut off denim shorts.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other designers trying to establish themselves?
Tinita: My advice would be that if you are truly passionate about what you do and believe in yourself…..KEEP PUSHING! It will take time to get there.

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Tinita: Stay true to who you are and what you believe. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind and ask questions. #livewhileliving
