WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A FASHION EVENT?

Being a model I have participated in several fashion shows as well attending them. While not everyone is invited to fashion shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris there are plenty of fashion shows, trunk shows, shopping events, meet and greets, and so much more that you can attend in your city. These events can lead to some serious outfit induced anxiety because you will be surrounded by stylish people.

If you're not comfortable trying out one of the latest trends or wearing something bold, you certainly can wear your favorite all black outfit (that's me) and call it a day. If you do wear black try adding a pop of color, whether in the form of a belt, hat, a handbag or switching up the skirts and the blouses. I encourage you to take a risk with your outfit, this is the time to try the latest looks. The goal is to creat a fashionable outfit that includes one statement piece and one on-trend (very fashionable) accessory.

In the fashion world, layers and accessories are important because they add visual interest to any look, so don't forget to include one or the other (or both). If you're like me I pay attention to my handbag and my shoes. Having the right handbag and shoes can totally transform your look. It can take your outfit from gloom to glam in seconds. After all, while the runways are full of couture and ready-to-wear designs, it's also the attendants who set the latest trends.

The next couple things should definitely be on point is your hair and makeup. Attending a fashion event is a great opportunity to be trendier than usual. Just remember to be sure to pick one major trend to try, you definitely don't want to over do it and stand out more than necessary. At the end of the day Divas, remember it's all about confidence in whatever you choose to wear, so don't forget about yourself and rock your outfit!

FIRST DATE & WHAT TO WEAR

Have you ever thought about what to wear on a first date? Most Divas have, even myself. If you're like me you don't want to over think your outfit. I know it can exciting and nerve-wracking trying to figure out what to wear. One thing you don't want to seem like you tried too hard and spent all day in the salon or look over dressed to the point of ridiculousness. The goal is to create a slightly dressy outfit that combines flirty elements with touches of toughness. The look should be relatively similar to what you would wear to work in a creative office, but with more nighttime-appropriate touches and sex appeal.

Ok Divas, I do this too (sometimes), but don't try an experiment. What I'm saying is this isn't the night to experiment with the latest over-the-top runway trends. It will be wasted on most men and some men will be freaked out, so save those looks for Girls Night Out. There are certainly a lot of cute outfits that you can definitely wear on your first date. A nice top paired with a skirt, dress, cute jeans or even my favorite leggings. These items that I mentioned should be already be in your closet and ready for a date. What I usually do is before I'm even asked to go on a date is keep those clothes washed or I put them in the cleaners.

The main thing you do not want to do is overwhelm your date with too much seductive femininity, so be sure to balance your outfit with some tough accents or menswear inspired pieces, like a blazer. One easy way is to help determine your outfit is to pick your favorite body feature, highlight it, then balance the rest of your outfit from there. Just remember Divas, what matters most is that you feel comfortable and confident. Hope my tips help and have fun on your date!

BEING PLUS SIZE & ONLINE DATING

I know I have tried, well actually still trying online dating. I know for me trying to meet someone in person can be a tedious task for me because of my busy schedule. So, I turned to online dating sites. It has been quite the experience for me verses meeting a man on an ordinary day or night for that matter. Men tend to not really approach me in person, hmmm…maybe it's my height (wearing heels does not make it any better) or maybe it's my size, heck I don't know. I do know that dating online has been a lot easier for me. I make a profile, add some photos and presto I'm beginning my journey of online dating.

Sure dating can be difficult at any size, but dating for me as a plus size woman is different. On one site I find that men will peek at my profile and don't speak something made you peek, so why not speak or I read, "you're beautiful!" and that's it. I'm confused or maybe it's what I said in my profile that made them run for the hills, who the hell knows. Then there are the weird or strange messages I would receive from guys, um no delete and block. Now, I will say I have gone on a few dates and eh, the guys were not what I expected. Their profiles painted a totally different picture from what I'm seeing and hearing in person. So, back to the drawing board I go!

I weigh my pros and cons being a plus size woman using online dating sites to find that guy that's "right" for me. It can feel like everyone has an amazing dating life but you, and it can feel like you only attract people who have issues or fetishes. But I had to realize these things happen to any woman of any size. I also have to realize I'm not the only one that these things happen to, thank God! So, what do I say about dating online, well it's simple do what works for you. Either it's dating online or meeting someone in person. But for me I'll keep the profile up a little longer and see what will happen, who knows I might get lucky and be asked on a few more dates. I just have to think positive and see what the future may hold for me. I do believe God has a plan for this “big girl”, I just have to continue to wait patiently (God, please send a tall man). So, Divas if you have stories about your experience with online dating I would love to hear from you.
