It  was nice to have the opportunity to interview the beautiful model Nicole. As a model, Nicole has been staying very active with her career. I can see Nicole growing and doing well in this industry. Here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Nicole: Born in Lincolnton, NC and grew up in Charlotte, NC

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Nicole: Providence High School in Charlotte, NC, I attained my Bachelor's Degree at Montreat College also in Charlotte.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Nicole: Fashion Design, sewing, writing and modeling. I am a self-taught designer with my own ready to wear clothing line under the name Nicole B. Designs established late 2016. I have also pushed myself and introduced my lingerie collection ThickUMS in January of 2017. Now I'm very excited to continue to push myself and created a collection of high end couture gowns known as NicCouture.

Jchell: Who inspires you?
Nicole: I find inspiration in a number of things, people, and places. I can't specifically say that there is one person. I tend to take characteristics from a number of individuals that are positive, courageous, hardworking, and generous. It could be anybody. When I see someone or something doing good things it makes me smile, it makes me want to fight and stay encouraged.

Jchell: How long have you been modeling?
Nicole: I have been modeling for 3 years now.

Jchell: Are you an independent or agency model?
Nicole: I'm currently independent but actively seeking representation.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a model?
Nicole: I started out modeling by chance. I accompanied my oldest daughter to a casting call at which she was selected. The judges saw me and asked that I cast as well. I did, and was selected. Modeling took off like a whirlwind! After my first show I was requested to do more shows and I've even been international. Starting out was an escape for me, I love it! Traveling, meeting new people and wearing great fashion and make up renewed a confidence in me that had been lost for a long time.

Jchell: Who is your favorite photographer(s)?
Nicole: Jerry Barnes out of Atlanta Georgia.

Jchell: Have you been published in any magazines?
Nicole: Yes, I've been published quite a few times and have even graced a few covers.

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Nicole: Yes, I have done extra work on tv shows and movies.

Jchell: Let's talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Nicole: one very important thing I've learned in the modeling industry is no matter how flawless your make-up is….You have to wash it off at night before bed. I moisturize my skin every morning and night and I drink lots of water. As far as my hair I wear a lot of protective styles since the demands in the fashion world change often.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Nicole: You know….I don't really have one. I match to the beat if my own drum. I don't really follow trends, if it looks good and makes me feel good I wear it. I do tend to mix vintage and modern styles together, I'm a sucker for that.

Jchell: Every girl has a special “can't live without this” in her closet, what's yours?
Nicole: That would be my camouflage jacket, black crop top and combat boots. Crazy, Sexy, Cool.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves?
Nicole: My advice that I always give aspiring models is “Walk with confidence and they can't help but notice”. As long as your confident hold your head high and show the world what you're made of.

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Nicole: I just want to point out that people will tell you that you have to have tough skin in this industry...its true. I'm still working on my tough skin and you'll get more no’s then yes’ but if it's something you want, stay determined and don't give up.

hot, but I love a nice jacket.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish

Jerrica: My advice would be just that “establish yourself” too many times we aim to please the on

Jerrica: Yes, The day I became comfortable in my own skin was the day I began really living. Modeling as

I first met Jente when we were models for an Ashley Stewart fashion show and we have worked on other projects together. I see a lot of potential in her and I hope to see her continue to do well in the plus size modeling industry. To learn more about Jente, here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Jente: Dallas, TX (Oak Cliff).

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Jente: Lincoln High School/ El Centro.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Jente: My main interests are setting goals for myself and conquering them. My hobbies are being creative, shopping (thrift stores), reading books, watching documentaries and just staying humble, making my own distress jeans and jackets.

Jchell: How long have you been modeling?
Jente: I’ve been modeling since June of 2016 and it’s been great.

Jchell: Are you an independent or agency model?
Jente: I’m independent.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a model?
Jente: It was great starting out and still going great. At times you have your hiccups but that's life. Hold your head up, smile and keep it moving.

Jchell: Who is your favorite photographer(s)?
Jente: D. Lacy and Marcus Perryman.

Jchell: Have you been published in any magazines?
Jente: Yes, I have Curvz Magazine and Arts Institute Catalog (fashion).

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Jente: No, I haven't, but I am open to it.

Jchell: Let's talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Jente: Well, I wash my face with Dove Shea Butter soap. I have an avocado rub that I use as well (homemade) and I also use raw shea butter to moisturize my skin.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Jente: Vintage, pleated skirts, high waist jeans, any kind of shirt that I can add my own touch to it and I’m so in love with everything blue jean and distressed.

Jchell: Every girl has a special “can't live without this” in her closet, what's yours?
Jente: Jackets, I love them and can't live without them.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves?
Jente: If you are passionate about it go hard, don't give up, stay focused and keep your head on straight. It may get tough at times, but always remember you are your own best interest. No model looks alike unless you're twins, so you have to find out what makes you stand out the most and focus on that. Stay confident through it all, everybody is not going to support you and that's ok as long as you know who's been rocking with you since day 1.  “YOU GOT THIS, SO KEEP PUSHING.”

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Jente: Put God First and everything else will follow and never put your dreams on hold.

Thank you model Lynn Rose for the opportunity to interview you. Lynn Rose is a beautiful and talented model. Just a few years into the business, I feel she has what it takes to make her career flourish. Here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Lynn Rose: I'm from Chester, PA but I grew up in New Castle, Delaware.

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Lynn Rose: I attended high school at Cab Calloway School of the performing arts in Wilmington, Delaware, and I studied musical theatre, vocal performance, and stage tech. For college I went to Schoolcraft College, in Livonia, Michigan, my major was recording technology, they only offered the 2 year program so I came back to Delaware and I attend Wilmington University off and on studying business currently.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Lynn Rose: I'm still very interested writing and producing music under my own label or talent agency . I mainly focus on Pop and R&B music and post the songs on YouTube and Reverbnation etc. But besides that, I also volunteer at my church teaching music there to anyone who wants to learn, so I really enjoy that as well.

Jchell: How long have you been modeling?
Lynn Rose: I first started in 2012.

Jchell: Are you an independent model or an agency model?
Lynn Rose: Currently independent.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a model?
Lynn Rose: Starting out I felt like I was on my own, when people asked me about modeling, they said, I was very beautiful but did I think I would find work being a plus size model. Within the past few years the market has really opened up, so it has fueled my fire to go hard to get picked up. I have a lot more friends and family support this time as well.

Jchell: Have you been published in any magazines?
Lynn Rose: No magazine features yet! *goals*.

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Lynn Rose: Yes, I love acting. I've been in about 8 or 9 Productions for musical theatre. My favorite role would have to be, Eponine from Les Miserables. My next wish would to be featured on a sitcom or in a film.

Jchell: Let's talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Lynn Rose: I soak in the bath with about a cap full, maybe a cap and a half of baby oil mixed in the water to keep my skin nourished. I keep my face clean with Biore combination skin balancing cleanser, I stick to mostly Avon lotion, moisture therapy line around this time of year. Shea Butter for elbows and heels, lol.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Lynn Rose: I really enjoy layering, I love wearing a tight pencil skirt or dress, and then tie a jean jacket around the waist. Or a bulky hoodie with a tight crop top on and some tights under ripped up jeans.

Jchell: Every girl has a special “can't live without this” in her closet, what's yours?
Lynn Rose: I definitely can't go without my tights of every print and color that's eye catching, lol.

Jchell: Who’s your favorite photographer(s)?
Lynn Rose: I love my local photographer s/o to LRP Photography @Lrptv. But I would LOVE to work with Osha Waiters. She's amazing and I look up to her business grind.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves?
Lynn Rose: I know that for me, it helps to be as unique, and as different as possible, and do not hold back any talents or any of your gifts, because that's what sets you apart and makes people inspired by the way you love yourself.

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Lynn Rose: I've been kind of saying over and over the past few days, I guess you could say my mantra is, "The elevator to success is broken, so you need to take the stairs." And the other is, "Be the best, never give up and settle for nothing."

PLUS SIZE MODEL SPOTLIGHT: CHEREANDRA BLAKLEY

I would like to thank model Chereandra for the opportunity to interview her. After conducting her interview, Chereandra is just getting her feet through the door of plus size modeling. Even though she is fairly new to the industry, she has been staying active. I'm sure in due time you will see this beauty slaying the runway and doing other things offered in the industry. Here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Chereandra: I am originally From New Orleans, Louisiana, but I reside in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Chereandra: I went to Oscar Dean Wyatt High in Fort Worth Texas, where my talents for music was embraced by the wonderful Jewell Kelly teacher of gospel singer Kirk Franklin.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Chereandra: My main hobbies are modeling, singing, fashion, and also doing my mom's mani and pedi at home being that her mobility is slowly but surely coming back.

Jchell: How long have you been modeling?
Chereandra: I would say I have been active in trying to become more relevant for about 1 year.

Jchell: Are you an independent model or an agency model?
Chereandra: Right now I am an independent model and open for all the advice and input I can get from powerful women in the industry.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a model?
Chereandra: It was hard and also a life lesson learned, I always thought I wasn’t good enough. My first shoot was in Dallas, the guy who was behind the lens I guess he didn’t think I was good enough to be published on his page but now that I have positive feedback from people near and far he want me to shoot again. I learned, don’t let no one stop you from pursuing your dreams, you fall but you better get back up and that’s what I did. This isn’t an easy role as a plus size model, it's plenty of beautiful women out there and our job is to catch their eyes and that’s my mission as of today, keep grinding.

Jchell: Have you been published in any magazines?
Chereandra: No, but I’m not saying it will never happen either, this journey has just begun for me.

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Chereandra: I have been to open call auditions, but have I actually gotten a role no ma’am.

Jchell: Let's talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Chereandra: I am a natural girl, so first off I try to drink 60 ounces of water a day at the very least. I also use Neutrogena Clean and Clear facial wash, sonic facial brush, and toners of my choice are Neutrogena step 2 toner and all natural aloe  as a moisturizer. I use Aveeno Brightening Face moisturizer with sunscreen or shea butter. For my hair, I have not had a perm in 5 years I get deep conditioning and also use peppermint cleanses in between each installment of whatever protective style I have. I also take biotin faithfully with a good multi vitamin.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Chereandra: I'm a pin up vintage type of girl, I’m loving the chic look it speaks power and so much happiness. I don’t match all the time, I like bold pieces to highlight my fit for the day. I also like anything that’s handmade meaning nobody is alike, I like being that woman, I only can walk in my shoes.

Jchell: Every girl has a special “can't live without this” in her closet, what's yours?
Chereandra: Well, I must say this is kind of hard, as of right now I can’t live without my pink fuzzy Fendi slides after a long day at work those are my go to, I don’t have a shoe yet that I own thast worth me wanting to just get home and get comfy.

Jchell: Who’s your favorite photographer(s)?
Chereandra: My faves have to be NYC Marta Dorosh Photography, Shoot With Gary in Dallas, and Kelly Williams photography.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves?
Chereandra: Don’t give up! Don’t under estimate yourself keep pushing. You're beautiful, just because one person may think you’re not the look for them, it’s just God moving because he got something bigger and better for you. Start by taking quality pictures, start somewhere this journey is never over, always a learning opportunity.

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Chereandra: I am a God fearing woman, that likes to empower other young women my age and even older. I recently turned 25 this November, I tried out for the Voice 2 years ago, I decided to go for my dreams and I live by there is no reason I can’t get what I want if I am putting in the work. Good things don’t come to those who sit.

SUMMER DRESSES HAVING THE WINTER BLUES?

12/6/2016

Picture
Just because it’s getting cooler outside does not mean you have to hide those summer dresses in your closest. Dresses can be worn even in the middle of winter, all it takes is some layering knowledge. In fact, you SHOULD wear your dresses in the winter. They have the potential to look really adorable and stylish.

To pull this off you have to have some fashion basics (I’m sure most of you Divas have these items already in your closet). Here are the fashion basics: leggings, tights, boots, thick socks, cardigans, jackets, blazers, scarves, and hats. You want to look cute, not freeze your butt off. If you’re not sure how to turn your summer dress into a stylish winter outfit, here are a few tips and pics I think will help.

TIPS:
*Try wearing a maxi dress with a cute blazer, jacket, cardigan or a sweater over the dress to make it look like a skirt. You could also wear a long sleeve button down shirt underneath a sleeveless summer shift dress with tights. Add a belt to make the look less bulky. Don’t forget to pair your outfit with a chunky scarf and booties.
*Try wearing a shorter length dress with leggings or with tights. You can also rock the dress with over the knee boots or boots that hit below your knee. It will be almost like wearing pants because little of your legs will be showing. If you don't want to wear tights, wear thigh-high socks under your boots. It looks cute and will keep you warm. Don’t forget to add a stylish hat or beanie.

PLUS SIZE MODEL SPOTLIGHT: SAMANTHA DAVIS

11/30/2016

Picture
I love to interview models who are busy on and off the runway. The beautiful and talented model Samantha is with a few agencies and has been on television. I can certainly relate to her because I have done runway work and I have been on television. Hopefully one day we will see her on America's Next Top Model. Here is her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Samantha: I am from Fremont, California in the San Francisco Bay area.

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Samantha: I went to Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California and I went to college at California Baptist University in Riverside, California.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Samantha: Some of my main interests and hobbies include spending time with friends and family, going to sporting events (softball/baseball in particular because I am a former softball player), going to the beach, going to the movies, and traveling.

Jchell: Are you an independent or agency model?
Samantha: I am signed with a few agencies. I also book gigs independently as well.

Jchell: What was it like starting out as a model?
Samantha: I was a young plus size girl when I began modeling.  There weren’t many stores available for younger full figured girls at the time. Nor, were there many women in the media who were full figured in order for me to look up to them and see someone who looked like me. Being a young plus size girl when starting my career, I took many classes (runway classes), worked with many runway coaches one on one and quickly began booking a lot of small runway gigs. When I first started modeling, modeling was definitely a major passion of mine. I loved it and wanted to pursue it further. I made a promise to my parents that I would finish my education first prior to pursuing it further. I made my decision for my University when choosing colleges based on where I felt I could be in a good area to help my modeling career grow as well.

Jchell: Have you been published in any magazines?
Samantha: Yes, I have been published in a few magazines including Plus Model Magazine, Beauty Come Forth Magazine, and Daily Venus Diva Magazine.

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Samantha: As far as acting, my first agency I signed with in Los Angeles was for acting. I have done a lot of acting on the side such as:
Mariah Carey’s “Bye, Bye” Music Video
12 Corazones
World Hip Hop Battle Championships Show
The Doctors
Jessica Simpson VH1 The Price of Beauty Reality Show Runway Fashion Show (2009)
Runway Rhythm Televised Fashion Show
My Black is Beautiful
1000 Ways To Die “The Headless Warden”
Marie Claire Magazine’s Big Girl in a Skinny World YouTube Channel
Far East Movement “Illest” Music Video
TLC Network’s My Fat Saved My Life Episode
Blood Relatives Season 5 Episode 504
……and more to come that I cannot mention at this time.

Jchell: Let's talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Samantha: For my skin I wash my face daily with Clean & Clear Morning Burst and Astringent. I also use Ponds Moisturizer on my face and Cocoa Butter Lotion. I don’t have a specific basic hair routine. I do go regularly to get it styled and basic care done by a hair stylist. On a regular day, I may just have some hair gel & hair spray in my hair with a bun or a pony tail. :) lol.

Jchell: What are your favorite trends you love?
Samantha: I absolutely love a nice peplum dress or top.

Jchell: Every girl has a special “can't live without this” in her closet, what's yours?
Samantha: A nice pair of jeans that fit 'perfectly' and accentuate your curves.

Jchell: Who’s your favorite photographer(s)?
Samantha: I love shooting with Lesley Pedraza, Michelle Alexandra, and Michael Green.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves?
Samantha: Always do your research, practice your poses for shoots and your walk, and invest in some good images for your portfolio.

Jchell: Is there anything else you would like to add?
Samantha: Just for people not to give up on their dreams. I’ve heard many Yes’, but I’ve also heard many No’s. I don’t let that stop me. Be persistent and know that you will find the client, magazine, designer, etc. that is looking for your particular look.  Remain professional, strive for your goals, and continue to do what it takes to be successful with your career.
